What I'm watching this fall

|
It's been a while since my last post of any real substance.

Recently, as you may or may not know, I was looking into the shows that would make up the fall season. I kicked it off with my own review of Men in Trees. I admit, I wasn't able to review as many of the new ( or even existing ) series. If this was my day job perhaps that would have been possible. I thought I would give it a try and predict the shows that would last and the one's that wouldn't.

Well, things are turning out as I expected ( or at least kind of ).
Men In Trees is still hanging in there.

Last Friday we all sat down to play UNO. That may or may not be the actual name because it is the version that has a little turbo jet, card shooter thingy. I turned the show on in the background and caught glimpses of it from time to time. So, suffice it to say, it's not really at the top of my list. I still tune in to watch it, but if something else more entertaining comes up . . . so be it. I'm not recording it. I still contend that the cast is good and I appreciate the direction the show is going. I think this one will hang on - perhaps even through the next spring season.

Survivor is the only reality show that I spend any real time watching.

I record it if I won't be home. I shoosh people who insist on talking during the show instead of during the commercials. I'm still holding back from trying to predict the winner.

Studio 60 I have to admit. I really do like this show.

It's near the top of my list. I'm certain it will be a regular for quite a while - perhaps another year or so. I don't go to the trouble of recording episodes I may miss. Since it's on after the kids go to bed, I can usually watch it in peace. After 9pm, again since the kids have gone to bed, I usually use that time to work on projects. My attention usually floats back and forth between the TV and the computer screen. So, I would'nt necessarily call myself a hardcore Studio 60 watcher, but I try not to miss it.

Smith I predicted that Smith would probably not last very long. From my post on September 19th:

"Will they continue to get away with their heists? Every now and then it's good to see the bad guys get away, but will they run out of things to swipe? I think the chances are good that their run of luck will eventually end. Liotta himself tells his boss that he only wants three or more jobs before he retires. Furthermore, I think it's well communicated that he is much more interested in spending time with his family than lifting fine art for the rest of his life."
It would have been great if the show would have continued. Primarily because I am a bigt fan of Ray Liotta. But I did question the direction it was heading and the possible storylines.

The Unit Although it's not a new series, I wanted to review it.

I always tune in if I am home. I don't record it. If I miss an episode, I'll survive. But, I do like the show and expect it to be around for a few more seasons or until the problems in Iraq are over.

Heroes Oh yes!!

Heroes is a hit with me. If I'm going to miss it. I record it. This is another one that cannot be interrupted. While my wife and daughter cannot find the interest in the show that I can, my son and I are dedicated watchers. Sometimes this bothers me because the content has moments that I find questionable for the time slot that Heroes occupies. My vote is still out on whether Heroes will be around for another season. I'm not sure how it is doing ratings-wise. I expect it's not too bad, however.

Shark Here's another one that has a 9pm time slot.

I like the show. I like the characters. I like the direction it's heading. But I doubt it will go on for more than one more season. I generally watch Six Degrees while I record Shark.

Six Degrees I missed last week's episode.

But I am a fan of the show. I still haven't watched it even though I recorded the episode. That in itself should tell you that I don't live to watch the show. I remember where it left be hanging in the last episode I watched. Unfortunately, until I have had a chance to watch last week's episode, I'm going to hold off on making any judgement about its future.

Jericho Will die a slow painful death.

I could care less about this show. I made an effort to like this show, but it just doesn't do it for me.

The Class This show makes me laugh.

I really enjoy the wide variety of humor and the characters are just neurotic enough for me to appreciate. I think this one will live on for a while.

Kidnapped Here again, I must quote myself:

"Don't get me wrong, I think they've assembled a great cast. I'm not sure about Will Denton as he didn't get many lines in the pilot. However, I'm not convinced of the content. Maybe it's just me, but Kidnapped doesn't pass the believability test. I'm going to have a little trouble tuning in each week just to watch this kidnapping extend itself yet another week. I'm sure the writers will throw in a failed escape attempt, and there will be close calls. Will Sisto and the FBI quote Maxwell Smart, "Missed em' by that much?" "
I just couldn't get into the show. So there it is - with the exception of Six Degrees, that's where I stand.
