I watch these shows from time to time: Man vs Wild and Survivorman. They say they can teach you how to survive singlehandedly in environments like cold arctic regions, desert ranges and alligator infested swamps.
In every episode either of the two, Bear Grylls ( Man vs Wild ) or Les Stroud ( Survivorman ), are dropped in a remote location and given a time frame in which they must either find civilization or survive until found. They are not usually given any of the conveniences that your modern camper would have. They both are normally equipped with a knife, a container for water and Bear usually brings some flint. Les has often been stranded with equipment. For example, he was "stranded" in a desert when his motocross bike "broke down". Therefore, he was able to use parts from it in order to survive.
However, neither of the two men have ever acknowledged that they received outside assistance from any of the crew that film the series.
But . . . in this BBC news article an entirely different story comes to light. In one instance when Bear was supposedly filming on a deserted island:

However, he was actually in Hawaii and spent some of his time there in a motel, Mr Weinert alleged.Who would have thought that these "reality" shows aren't really all that real? Perhaps Bear isn't quite as much man as say, for example, I am . . . because as I've pointed out before, on my off days I wrestle bears.

Say it isn't so! I love Man vs. Wild. Especially that episode in the Outback where he drank his own urine. Blech.
I know, I know . . .
I saw that one. Now that's disgusting. But did you see the one in Africa. He demonstrated another way to quench your thirst by picking up a big ol' wad of elephant dung and squeezing the juice out of it.
Now that's just beyond disgusting. I think I'd rather fall over in an advanced state of dehydration than do something like that.
Ok, I have always been suspicious about Bear grylls's show. A lot of things happen all to perfectly to help him live. But besides that, I believe Strouds show, because he has no outside help wiht him. The only outside help is the people that search for him after his 1 week limit is over. He has to film everything himself, he is given a few cameras, film, and spare battery packs. Grylls on the other hand has a full crew that follows him everywhere.
Who cares? They are both amazing. Bear also only
claims he is trying to show you how to survive. Also, I'd like to find out more before Bear is condemned. Maybe footage was lost, so they refilmed a scene? I saw the show where Bear's raft was buffeted by Tiger Sharks. If every fifty shows he screws off and sleeps in a hotel, I say God Bless him. Most reality T.V. is stupid any way except for Les and Bear's shows.
You know who really knows if Bear Grylls stayed in the hotel i love watching his and Les Strouds shows they are awesome. Every reality show has something to hide and i would think that if the elements got to dangerous that they would take care of themselves. They dont need to risk their lives just for a tv show. I love their shows and look forward to seeing them no matter what everyone says.
